happy memorial day!

More than 20,000 flags were placed on the Common last week in memory of each Massachusetts soldier lost since World War I. What a beautiful and special way to remember.

Check out the Boston Globe's coverage!

In memory and gratitude,

happy feet :)

I had one of my favorite Boston-afternoons today! My beautiful and absolutely wonderful boss, Laura, and I spread out a towel on the Common after work today and just chatted for about two hours. It was so warm and there was a fantastic breeze! Random dogs came up to chat with us! Random men threw their frisbees/footballs/soccer balls at us! I even got to slip off my sandals and let my toes enjoy the cool grass :)

It was absolutely spectacular and I have every intention of having a repeat tomorrow! Thank you, Jesus, for such a wonderful day!

moh duties, please!

I love being an MOH (pronounced "moe" -- that's a "Maid of Honor," Uncle Mitchell)!! Mostly because, ya know, it's an honor...but also because it gives me an excuse to stalk wedding photography blogs :) Here's some of my favorite inspirations I found in today's searchin' from Laura at Ruby Shoe's Photography!!

love your fave MOHzilla,

No wet nose, here.

First, he is fake. (So no need to feel sorry for the cute lil ole thang!)

Second, it scared the BAJEEZUS out of me on my walk home from work today!! ....because I wasn't aware that it was fake yet...

Third, best "Beware of Dog" sign. Ever.

go dawgs!! :)

songs of the southland.

....ummmm yea.....pretty much did this the whole weekend.....

If you're a lover of all-things Southern, you will LOVE this book! I could hear the voice of my home on every page. There's love, there's hate, sweet and scary moments, and (my favorite) some hilarious one-liners! I know I'm ten years behind, what with school and all, but go read this NOW if ya haven't already!!

.......and now I wanna write one of my own! DRAT! So much to do, so little time!!

health care for all.

I started a summer internship today at Health Care For All, a health/patient advocacy group located in Boston. It promises to be an awesome adventure filled with newsletters, blogging, social media out-the-wazoo, policy meetings, cutting videos, snapping pics, marching at the State House, drafting, editing, tweaking, yadda yadda yadddddaaaa...

...and I can't wait :)

I got to play Scrabble today (I remembered how, Bobbi!!) with Katie's wonderful mom and grandmother. I didn't lose -- yay! -- but it was an absolute miracle seeing as I had this hand at one point in time....

hillary's getting married, too :)

One of my most dear friends, Hillary (aka Larry), is engaaaaaaaaged to the awesome Justin Ely!

There were so many charades and lies and deceit was woven pretty deeply....and she was taken completely by surprise! YAY! I felt so blessed to be a part of it and to see her just hours before and then right after. So cool! They are beautiful and I couldn't be more excited for them!

Congrats you two! Love ya!

katie's getting married :)

Haley and I threw an around-the-house shower for Weiser today and had the privilege of meeting more of her wonderful friends and family! We made soooo much food -- and I was, for real, worried that there wouldn't be enough beforehand! -- and enjoyed some of those dependable, cheesy but always fun bridal shower games. She racked up on some great loot and looked absolutely beautiful, too!

Doesn't look like much, but we took a lot home! Haley and I made some awesome Oreo truffles, shrimp + grits,
grape salad, chocolate muffins, chicken + cream cheese croissants and fruit kabobs! Yummmmooo!!

Puppy chow for favors. I love fun side tables ;)

I made the tea ... thus, descriptors were necessary. "Not so sweet (but still sweet)" for our Seattle guests,
and "Pretty darn sweet" (aka molasses) for all my Georgia folk!

Less than two monthsssss! Eek!!

Went shopping for a birthday present for Weiser and found this in my search -- looks like she might be getting an awesome, domesticating gift, too :)

two down!!

Two semesters down, three to go!! Treated myself to a leisurely walk home tonight after my final class and presentation, and snagged a few shots of the beautiful Boston springing up all around me! Enjoy!

(half of) sweet caroline.

Lovely afternoon with Miss Susan today! She helped me find a bridesmaid dress for Weiser's wedding (finally!) and we enjoyed a warm'ish evening and great seats at Fenway! I may or may not be the Red Sox bad luck charm--they always lose the games I attend but always win the series--but we still had a fabulous time!!

the loch ness monster of the cracker aisle.

Many slash most of you will not understand the significance of the picture, so let me explain...

Goldfish crackers come in three sizes: small, medium, and way-too-huge. I always buy the small ones, but they (of course) never seem to last as long as ya want them to...still ya can't justify buying an $8 ten-gallon'ish box of fish-shaped salt snacks when they'd be just for you (and not the classroom of pre-k students they're intended for). I'd always heard the medium-size box existed--as the sticker on the grocery store shelf indicates they are available for sale--but never actually seen one in real life (unless you count that one time in undergrad when Weiser found them and I naively began to believe that purchasing them on the regular would be possible).

Ever since then, I've played this oddly suspicious game of hide-and-seek with the medium-sized box. I turn down the aisle with fingers crossed and tongue held juuuust right...and yet I always lose and have to give in to the small but delicious tinier package. But that was yesterday...

Well, my friends, what with health care reform, the Royal Wedding, Osama Bin Laden news, and the promise of two Jersey Shore spin-off series (she said with sarcasm), I know you've been immensely worried of the medium-size box mystery, too. But I've come here to you to spread the good news: They're real. And I've got proof :)

say "mom's love fishes cuz they're so delicious!"

jocelyn ann :)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOCELYN!!!

Today is the 23rd anniversary of our favorite Mexican's birth! She was sung to by three waiters at a Thai restaurant for lunch, our whole class with candles sticking out of sweet potato fries, and then by a gang of opera-singers (not kidding) who were celebrating at the same restaurant as us. And she deserves every single one! She's been a fabulous accessory in my attack on grad school in the wonderful city of Boston, and the world and I are luckier for having her one more year!

Happy burfday, old lady!!

estudiar.

I got to look at this lovely mug for the duration of the evening studying for our final Epidemiology/Biostatistics test. It's gonna be nasty...could even make a grown man cry. Basically, it's the epitome of the guy you don't want to ever meet in an alley. It's white after Labor Day. It's the worst "I'm falling" dream you've ever had. It's cut-off blue-jean shorts, an orange cut-off tee, and a mullet. It's unforgiving and relentless, and it's our formidable opponent. Show down's tomorrow at 6 p.m. sharp. I pray we're the last men standing...

PRAY!

a beautiful day in the neighborhood.

(my camera was straight...boston is just lop-sided.)
Emily and I took advantage of the gorgeous (albeit windy/chilly) weather today and studied for our (looming) upcoming Epi/Bio final at the Common. We spread out a blanket, and with Starbucks in hand, learned all about effect modifiers, confounding, prevalence...yadda yadda. Won't bore ya with the details, but it was nice to soak up some sun, listen to some tunes (thank you, random band) and just have a lovely Sunday afternoon :)
