crayon.

School is just about back in session, and with it comes me running around like a chicken with its head cut off, scampering from work to internship to GSA meetings to speak on GSA Q+A panels to help run immunization clinics to co-hosting GSA mixer events to the gym and then hopefully home. Now, whether a chicken scampers or not, I can't be sure -- but I do know that eventually my head will stop spinning and the world shall be right side up again! In the mean time, I have Mr. and Mrs. Emerson to entertain me :)

act of total disregard.

At home sick today (sad face), but between my Sudafed naps and ingesting massive quantities of liquids, I had a nice giggle over a day-time television joke that doesn't quite hold water anymore. Certainly, it's still funny but not for the reasons intended :) Meanwhile, everyone in Boston has a phone stuck to their ear on the train, talking about the most personal of personal.... TMI, a lot and often.

cough, cough, giggle,

le mode.

I'm in love.

I will forever appreciate a fine accessory. And I can respect an on-budget embellishment.

But I will tap dance for a fancy and cheap accessory -- and I've found the place that provides me with just that: cue Le Mode Accessories.

Le Mode, I want you. I need you. Oh baby, oh baby.

tatt it up.

As Irene's pre-show started in over New England tonight, I settled in to finish off The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Intense, blood-curdling and definitely graphic -- but so so good!! Brilliantly planned! My only complaint: A lot of characters with similar names, but I obviously got over that. Be sure to read this one in public (ahem, not in your apartment alone during a storm when you could get easily freaked out), but definitely add it to your to-read list :)

mistah richter.

A very somber video to watch before reading this very serious blog entry:

As I'm sure you've all heard, the earth did a little bit of quaking this afternoon and, yes, we did feel some of its ripples all the way over here in Boston. Before sharing a truly devastating photo taken after today's events, though, please let me inform you of my own three-second progression through traumatic, initial reactions as I worked on the tenth floor of my internship building:

1. I thought I was, myself, tremoring from my arm exercises at the gym yesterday. Convinced that it was going to fall off, I resolved that I'd never go to the gym again.
2. After dismissing this silly notion -- and noting that if my theory were correct, my entire body was about to combust from working out -- I thought it may be an earthquake but quickly decided it had to be a train passing underground. (Back to the gym, I suppose.)
3. Then after remembering that I was, in fact, on the tenth floor and not the main floor, I realized something had gone awry because I shouldn't be able to feel a train way up here unless it, like, exploded.
4. Like gophers, heads started popping up over cubicles all around the office in a chorus of, "Did you feel that??"
5. Then it was over and that's all I have to say. OHMYGAH wasn't that so dramatic?!?!

I must admit the best part was when Catherine, who lives in Florida, texted me to see if I'd felt the quake. I promptly freaked out thinking that the entire east coast was about to fall into the ocean if everyone from way up here to way down there had felt it. She then informed me that she'd merely heard about but had felt nothing. I'm an idiot.

And now, the most scary thing you've seen since the last time you dropped your phone into that scary space between your seat and console in your car and removed something that was totally not your phone and was probably living at some point....drum roll please....

PS -- I hope I didn't make too much light of this situation. I really am so glad that everyone up and down the coast is okay! I just thought it fun to be able to share "my side of the horror" when there really was little horror at all...at least on my part! What was your experience?? :)

gallimaufry? why yes, all the time.

I was perplexed by the meaning of this word "gallimaufry" in my book, The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo by Stieg Larsson. Context clues pointed to "a lot" or "a whole junk load" or "a big pile of sorts"....but I had to look it up to be sure. Your vocabulary lesson for the day....

Gallimaufry -- A confused jumble or medley of things.
Use it in a sentence this week and report back :)

better together.

Let's face it, we're brilliant apart.
But, as Jack Johnson so melodically says, it's always better when we're together.

i've been glee'd.

The most beautiful cousin ever (fit with the coolest glasses and laniard ever), holding the most beautiful free poster ever at the most awesomest 3D movie ever. Finn and Puck in 3D. Yesss. Transformers, eat your heart out.

da beeeeeach.

Family vacay? Yes, please.

Though this is not my best shot of the Florida-line marker (one time I drove across about four lanes of traffic to snag one, with my Botans in tow), it's probably one of my favorites as it signifies the start of a most-needed week of R&R before this Bostonian settles in for another winter. Weeyam was obviously excited :)

i love my c-town friends, too!!

I was able to spend Saturday with some of my brilliant, hilarious and gorgeous friends from high school. We dined at our usual classy spot (Chili's), caught a movie (The ChangeUp, don't waste your time) and did one of my favorite summer pastimes -- ate some froyo :) Meet Mary Helen, Riley and Carmen...

The Ri-Master and ChaCha!
MHC is finally the right height....mine!!

a tasty welcome!

The father and I hit the town tonight in style. We had a progressive dinner of sorts, and ended up at Cafe Le Rue for our main course. YUMMO. This Cajun restaurant has got it down! And if ya don't wanna take my word for it, you should at least believe my dad -- his momma raised him on that cuisine and she was from the Louisiana Gulf! So there.

After we ghetto-rigged our personal fans to not only provide a breeze, but a cool one at that (provided free to all guests who choose to sit on the patio on a southern summer evening....so fancy!)....

...we enjoyed fried green tomatoes, tarragon shrimp salad, hot-n-spicy red beans and rice, shredded chicken and sausage jumbalaya, and shrimp and grits....

And THAT, my friends, is what a "tasty welcome" looks like. BAAM.

i love my friends.

Landed in good ole Georgia last night and got to met up with the most beautiful girls in the world for a Mexican lunch :) These are my besties. You should get to know them.

the heat is on.

Karan and I placed a bet today that I'd come back at least as tan as he is once I return from my Florida vacay. This is the before shot.
