proCRASStination.

You'd only ever see something this awesome on an Emerson College bulletin board :)

This flyer (and my pending and well-procrastinated Media Strategies paper) inspired me to come up with a list of a few of my favorite pieces of entertainment...with help from my Weeyam Brother and Joccy Joc.

Katy's Randomly-Listed-Top-Twelve-And-Only-Twelve-Cuz-It's-My-Blog-Goshdarnit Fave Movies
  1. The Bodyguard (The perfect movie: A romantic musical hidden underneath an action mystery!)
  2. Fast and the Furious (But not Tokyo Drift and soon-to-be Fast5!)
  3. You've Got Mail (Let's be honest, that's #1.)
  4. Harry Potter 1-7 pt. 1 (and soon-to-be 7 pt. 2!)
  5. Runaway Bride (CBA, I love montages and wide-screen shots!)
  6. When Harry Met Sally (That's Meg x2!)
  7. Life is Beautiful (If you haven't seen it, get it NOW! Not kidding. There will be a quiz.)
  8. Speed (But only the first one! Speed on a cruise ship?! Negative.)
  9. Steel Magnolias (The cemetery scene.)
  10. Gone in 60 Seconds (Throwback: First boy-girl movie party!)
  11. Monster's Inc. (I'm 4.)
  12. Never Been Kissed (The ending nails every. single. time!)
(Honorable Mentions: Top Gun and Finding Nemo!)

I'm sure you've noticed the super-girly-slash-oober-cheesy-car-movie theme going on (with magical-monster undertones)....but I can't help it! Hopefully, #7 and #9 will redeem me in the eyes of you movie snobs out there!! Maybe my tastebuds are a little unrefined (i.e. crass!)...but come on! The Bodyguard?!?! Classic.

I think this may inspire another need-to-see list to come soon! Any suggestions??

say cheese,
katy c.

Katy, you left off several o fthe best ever ...
1. Lord of the Rings Trilogy (metaphor for the whole christianity symbolism)
2. Star Wars 1-6 (duh!)
3. The Outlaw Josey Wales (Clint at his best in 1976 ... the last great western made ... I reckon' so)
4. Sahara ("I think we need to pull a Panama!")
5. The Incredibles, Cars, and Toy Story 1, 2, & 3 (I can be 4, too)
5. Major League (Wild thing and Baseball)
6. The American President (I admit my sappy romantic contribution ... Annette Bening (wow))
7. Monte Walsh (2003 Tom Selleck western memorializing the "end of the cowboy era" only possible because of #3 above)
8. The Undefeated (Windage and elevation, Mrs. Langdon. Windage and elevation")
9. The Godfather (Part 1 only)
10. Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid

and there you have it!!

Uncle Mitchell! These are great! I can't believe I left Toy Story 1-3 off my list--so incredible!! And Sahara is pretty hilarious (and totally applicable to the water discussion we had on HealthBent! today!). I also appreciate your appreciation for Major League and the American President...though I don't know that I'll ever understand the Lord of the Rings thing (mostly because I haven't been able to make it through any of them without falling asleep...both in my house and in the theater). But I respect your devotion!

I'm adding numbers 3, 7, and 8 to my Summer Watching To Do List, so I'll give ya feedback on those soon!!

Thanks for the tips :)

Oh my, and I thought your mother raised you right! Kids, kids today, they have no clue.

From your list, I will give you When Harry Met Sally. Great writing, funny, well acted, classic actors. After that, your list is total mush and will turn your brain to rot.

How about:

1. Wizard of Oz, oldie but goodie, story in a story, judy garland, flying monkeys, what's not to like
2. Diner, not many know this film, but chock full of actors who were young and unknown before they became famous, and includes one of the greatest lines about "making out" ever written
3. Godfather 1 and 2, I need to say no more on this choice
4. Some Like It Hot, possibly the best comedy ever made
5. The Graduate, Dustin Hoffman in dark comedy, fantastic ending
6. The Bridge Over the River Kwai, won multiple academy award, alec guiness before star wars
7. Splendor in the Grass, a classic weeper at the end, young warren beatty and natalie wood before her unfortunate ending
8. An Affair To Remember, the 1957 original, not the warren beatty remake, this movie inspired Sleepless in Seattle, but the original is better
9. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, only film to win best actor, actress, writing, movie and director
10. The Princess Bride, lovely, sweet, swashbuckling and Andre the Giant at his finest!

Now that young lady, is what you need to be watching.

And I could go on and on.......

omg, also forgot Rear Window, the stunningly beautiful Grace Kelly and Jimmy Stewart, directed by Hitchcock, with Raymond Burr as the bad guy, a definite must see

I'd add
1. Long Hot Summer -- Totally Hot Paul, more like it!
2. The Quiet Man -- The best side of John Wayne!
3. Hunt for Red October -- action, adventure, cold war -- Connery and Baldwin!
4. Biloxi Blues -- too funny
5. And speaking of Matthew -- Ferris Bueller may be the best movie ever made!
6. Shawshank Redemption
7. Frankly My Dear, I have to include GWTW as a good southerner
8. Found Money Pit amusing because I've gone broke fixing an old house
9. Found Funny Farm amusing because I've come to the brink of divorce exploring country life
and 10 I guess trapped on a deserted island I'd rent Galaxy Quest.
Disney Tops Picks include 101 Dalmatians, Aladin and the music from Hercules :D

my question is what good books have you read lately and textbooks DON'T count!

luvya, favorite aunt kelly

Goodness gracious, I should create embarrassing-posts-that-need-inspiration more often!!

Uncle Marty--While I do approve of your Wizard of Oz (why I love musicals as much as I do!), One Flew Over, and Princess Bride, I must admit: I don't really recognize any of your others! But they've officially been added to my Summer Watch list so I shall (hopefully) be redeemed--of the shame I've unfortunately brought to our family--soooon! Thanks for the tips :)

Aunt Kelly--Compared to my dear Mercer uncles, I must agree with your suggestions most (I wonder why??). Ferris Bueller actually reminds me of our Capers men, as I'm sure they ditched a day or two (or 100) back in their hay-days! Also, I'm embarrassed that I didn't list GWTW! It's even included in the measly movie collection that made it up to Boston with me--so I promise I have proof that it has my heart!!

Aunt Flo--You list is pretty rockin, too! And I love your dig at Uncle Marty :) Classic! Speaking of, Elf is my ALL TIME FAVORITE Christmas movie EVER. I thought for so long that I would hate it (because I'm not the biggest Will Ferrell fan), but once I saw it, I couldn't get enough!! I watch it November 1-New Year's. LOVE. AND Pretty Women (and Steel Magnolias, actually) is the movie my mom and I love to enjoy together! We can never get enough!! 10 Things I Hate About You is also up on my list, probs number 13 :) PS--loved your categories!!

Marty - Actually, the movie "Josie Wales" is truly considered the last Great American Western. In 1976 it was (and still is) considered the film that "saved" the American Western Genre ALLOWING movie like Unforgiven an dthe myriad of small screen westerns (Lonsesome Dove sries, Monte Walsh, etc) to be financed and made. So while Unforgiven may be regarded by some as better (I enjoy both, though unforgiven is darker), one must consider Josie Wales as Supreme if only based on timing (1976 - an era of Vietnam flicks not truly inspiring America) - so I stand by my original claim that Josie Wales is superior.

I agree -- thought I'd hate Elf, but found it charming! Can't say it tops It's A Wonderful Life as the all time Christmas must-see, but did love it! 10 Things definitely a good one -- sorry to have discovered Heath L. AFTER he died. :D Knight's Tale is hugely funny.

Please note that I also commented on the worship post. I'm not totally without spiritual bent. Glad the E. Bunny hopped your way! luvya
